The core of our outdoor educational staff at the Bryant Pond 4-H Camp is our counselors, who are integral to the success of our summer programs. Counselors lead groups of campers with from 6 to 12 participants ages 7 to 17, for week-long programs. (Several programs are 2-weeks long)

This role requires a high level of enthusiasm for working with children of various ages with a strong dedication to safety and fun. We offer a wide array of outdoor-focused programs based on conservation education, wilderness survival skills, naturalist, and adventure. Each week, we offer 10-12 different programs, providing a diverse and changing schedule. Being a camp counselor at Bryant Pond will be one of the most rewarding experiences available in Western Maine!

Summary

Qualifications: 

  • Previous camp experience or working with youth preferred 
  • Must have a desire to work with various age groups 
  • Must be a positive role model 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Interest or background in the outdoors: hiking, nature, hunting, fishing, canoeing, etc. 
  • Willing to live and work in a community setting with changing program needs and focuses. 
  • Attend a week-long staff training at Bryant Pond before the start of camp. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead programs for various ages, Sunday through Friday. (Some 2 week and a 1 week program) 
  • Supervise campers and ensure safety and risk management policies are followed. 
  • Plan lessons, lead activities, mentor campers, and provide opportunities for campers to learn and explore the outdoors through high-quality experiences. 
  • Perform camp chores that benefit the greater community. 
  • Attend staff meetings and debriefs as scheduled. 
  • Provide basic first aid as needed 
  • Some staff will also be lifeguards, shooting sports instructors, trip leaders, or other leadership roles as warranted, and agreed upon, based on training. 
  • Occasional bunk duty, or campsite coverage depending on the program 

Compensation Information

  • Typically Sunday through Friday, with occasional weekend programming. 
  • Sunday 11:30 a.m.-Friday 2 p.m. unless otherwise scheduled 
  • 1 evening, typically Tuesday or Wed. off or 4 hour mid-day off block 
  • 8 weeks of camp programs plus 1 week of staff training *LG, TLT, or WFA may be scheduled at other times. 
  • Room and Board are included. *Under 18 must have offsite weekend accommodations throughout the season, Friday evening through Sunday a.m. unless agreed upon by Camp Director. 
  • Lifeguards will be trained as required
