Summary
The Outdoor School Program Coordinator will work with the Outdoor School Program Director and Assistant Director to support all outdoor school programs that run September through June - which totals over 125 visiting schools and close to 9,000 guests. The OSP Coordinator must be flexible, quick thinking, personable, and willing to do a variety of tasks. The Coordinator helps with all day-to-day program tasks, solving problems, any issues that arise, answering phones and responding to emails, and creating detailed, thoughtful, and creative schedules for schools and staff. The coordinator will work closely with each school to curate an unforgettable outdoor experience - this role is integral in creating each individual school plan as well as a complex staffing schedule each week. This position assists in supervision of staff and ensures that each guest is cared for in a manner appropriate to guests’ wellbeing while onsite. This position helps serve as a liaison for the department and schools, this is a front facing position. A successful candidate is detail oriented, able to create and manage systems, creatively and quickly problem solve, is able to supervise and coach others effectively, and truly enjoys working with schools and children in an outdoor setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist Outdoor School Program Director & Assistant Director with all day-to-day responsibilities and logistics, including, but not limited to, programming, answering phone calls, overseeing staff, school greeting, moving group luggage, and meal hosting.
- Provide outstanding customer service to all School Programs participants. Create the highest quality Frost Valley experience. Attention to detail around meals, program areas, and staff interactions is crucial.
- Maintain a friendly, cooperative, and professional relationship with all staff and year-round support departments. This includes other assistant directors, the challenge course manager, housekeeping, food service, maintenance, wellness center and the welcome center.
- Create a safe and fun environment for students, participants, and Frost Valley staff.
- Assist in management, training, scheduling, and supervision of outdoor instructor staff.
- Be an active member of a team, including, but not limited to, giving your opinion in an appropriate manner, taking on delegated responsibilities, and helping to maintain the physical, emotional and mental health of each staff member.
- Share responsibility of being ‘on call’ during select evenings to help with group needs, as they arise.
- Be a positive role model for fellow staff and guests at all times. This includes modeling acceptable behavior, language, Frost Valley’s core values and outdoor standards.
- Ensure that outdoor school programs achieve the highest standard and meet the mission and goals of Frost Valley YMCA, as well as expectations of guests and campers.
- Serve as an outdoor instructor substitute, as needed.
Compensation Information
RATE OF PAY:$18.50 hour, shared housing, benefits - medical, dental, vision, retirement, meal plan, discounted hunting/fishing membership, discounted family visits, discounted summer camp for immediate family
