School programs at the Western North Carolina Nature Center focus on zoology, natural history, and NC Curriculum standards. We are looking for staff who are energetic and engaging, have strong leadership skills and the ability to model responsible mature behavior as they facilitate a variety of outdoor and indoor curriculum based environmental education programs for youth. This position will also conduct interpretation on grounds for a diverse audience. This includes, but is not limited to, serving as a roving naturalist and leading programming for the general public.

Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead onsite field trips for youth grades Kindergarten through high school. Field trips are curriculum based and connected to North Carolina Standard Course of Study
- Facilitate appropriate student behavior and group management while leading programs
- Interact directly with nature center guests and ensure a positive guest experience
- Engages with visitors (including children and adults) through interpretation activities included but not limited to a roving naturalist role, leading guests through hands-on stations and public programming
- Follow proper procedures and guidelines when handling education animals (reptiles and amphibians) in public programming
- Maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor at all times
- Assists in maintaining cleanliness of classroom and public facilities
- Performs related tasks as required
- Ability to connect guests to Appalachian fauna and flora

Compensation Information

$17/hr
