The Cape Fear River Watch Environmental Education Intern will assist with four weeks of summer nature camp for youth ages 8-12, in addition to other outdoor education programs. Full-time, seasonal position runs May 22 - July 26 (9 weeks). Compensation: $4,800 stipend. Must meet ALL eligibility criteria to apply: NC native/resident attending an accredited four-year college in the U.S.; rising sophomore, junior, or senior; Pell-grant eligible in '23-'24 school year.

Cape Fear River Watch protects and improves the water quality of the Cape Fear River Basin for all people through education, advocacy, and action.

Intern Title/Role: Environmental Education Intern

Term of Internship: May 22 - July 26, 2024

Compensation: $4,800 stipend

Position Description: 

The Environmental Education Intern will assist in: 

  • Co-lead 4 weeks of CFRW Summer Nature Camp for youth ages 8-12 alongside program staff; camps are full-day camps and run the weeks of June 10-14, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 22-26.
  • Lead other educational programming, including walking ecotours & STEM youth programming
  • Assist at the Greenfield Lake boathouse to rent out paddle boats, canoes, & kayaks to the public
  • Help plan and attend community outreach, tabling, and fundraising events
  • Assist with water quality projects, including field work and lab work
  • Contribute to CFRW's website and social media channels
  • Assist with general office operations

Skills of Intern:

  • Experience working with children and/or the public
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning, teaching, and environmental conservation efforts
  • Strong work ethic, and ability to take initiative and be a self-starter
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Physically able to lift 50 lbs
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
