Summary
Job Description: The intern will work under our educator and be involved in a variety of education programs. Duties can include leading center visitors through daily guided tours that showcase our rehabilitation efforts, answering the wildlife assistance phone line, developing and presenting on-site ecological programs, and helping our educator give off-site programs at area schools, camps, and libraries. Education interns will also be involved in ambassador animal care and enclosure maintenance, and will have the opportunity to help with wildlife rehabilitation tasks. These tasks include animal rescues, transports, medical procedures, emergency care, daily feeding, and releases.
Qualifications:
● Strong interest in wildlife and a desire to increase public knowledge and awareness through education. Students in Environmental Education, Biology, Wildlife Ecology and related fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants from other fields with a demonstrated interest in wildlife or environmental science will also be considered.
● At least one year of college experience required
● Must be up to date on tetanus shot, COVID-19 vaccine preferred
● Candidates should be highly motivated, flexible, creative, and independent
● Public speaking experience preferred. Candidates should be comfortable giving programs to people of all ages.
● Must be able to dedicate the entire season to internship. Requested days off will be considered but are not guaranteed.
Internship Dates:
Summer Start Date: Latest day to start is May 20, 2024 (arriving the day before)
End Date Options: Earliest end date is August 17, 2024, flexible end dates after that.

Compensation Information
On-site housing is provided at no cost for Northwoods Wildlife Center interns as well as a $100 weekly food stipend. It is recommended but not required that interns have their own means for transportation. A vehicle is provided for all Center business.
