Nestled in a beautiful, secluded mountain valley at an elevation of 9,000 ft. (2,743m) lies Colorado State University's 1,600-acre Mountain Campus. As a site for student learning, conferences, workshops, meetings, and retreats, the Mountain Campus offers a unique opportunity to leave the hectic pace of urban life behind and be immersed in the natural world of the Rocky Mountains. The Mountain Campus exists to serve the Colorado State University community and the surrounding region for academic field studies, educationally focused conferences and mountain research. Challenge Course Coordinator Position Summary: 

The Challenge Course Coordinator is responsible for daily operations of the Mountain Campus challenge ropes course, which includes five in-line high elements, five low elements dispersed in the forested area at the ropes course site, two equipment sheds, an outhouse, and a group gathering structure.

The position serves as a co-trainer and mentor for seasonal staff who will facilitate groups on the ropes course and collaborates with the Assistant Director of Events to develop and adjust weekly schedules and deliver appropriate services. The position carries out communications necessary for soliciting new group bookings, planning for group needs, completing booking to billing process for all day trip groups, and scheduling, mentoring, co-evaluating, and coaching the facilitator staff to meet the demands on the course. They will serve as a facilitator and should exhibit qualities listed below. Grounds work in the challenge course area may also be necessary.

The Challenge Course Coordinator must model risk management to assure safety, sanitation, and accident prevention for daily operations. This position ensures quality service is delivered and maintains equipment and structures. The position is responsible for modeling a culture of safety at the ropes course, and for addressing low-level training and accountability needs. This position is not responsible for supervision of facilitator staff and is not solely responsible for evaluation or accountability – these will be led and overseen by the Assistant Director for Events.

Compensation Information

Pay rate begins at $20/hour.
