The Wetlands Institute is currently accepting applications for THREE different part-time and seasonal positions of Science Education at Sea (SEAS) Instructor, Seasonal Naturalist and Summer Nature Program Instructor.

Summary

Science Education At Sea (SEAS) Instructor

  • Assists the Outreach Coordinator and other Education staff in teaching standardized programs to groups of students from grades 4-12.  The SEAS program is a 3-hour, ship-based program, including trawling, biodiversity assessments, and plankton, fish, and invertebrate studies. Boats depart from Wildwood Crest, New Jersey.
  • Helps with the supervision of student groups before and after the program.
  • Assists with maintenance of teaching supplies, and preparation and cleanup of equipment aboard the boat before and after the program.
  • It is expected that this position will work no more than 25 hours per week from approximately mid-April to mid-June and mid-September to mid-October.

 

Seasonal Naturalist

  • Assists the Director of Educational Program Development and other Education staff in teaching standardized programs to groups of students from grades preK-12. These programs include Wetlands Ecology, Barrier Beach Ecology, Cycles of Life, Beach Exploration, Horseshoe Crabs and Shorebirds, Turtle Talk, Marsh Critter Discovery Walk and Featured Environmental Education Field Trip Programs.
  • Helps with the supervision of student groups during breaks, in bathrooms, and in the Tidepool Shop.
  • Assists with maintenance of teaching supplies, and preparation and cleanup of teaching materials before and after the program.
  • It is expected that this position will work no more than 25 hours per week from approximately mid-April to mid-June and mid-September to mid-November.

 

Summer Nature Program Instructor.

  • Develops and conducts classroom and outdoor activities focused on exploring coastal environments such as salt marsh wetlands and ocean habitats and their associated wildlife and environmental concepts.
  • Supervises and teaches a specific age group of children, with the overall program consisting of children ranging from age 4 to age 13.
  • Assists with maintenance and organization of teaching supplies as well as maintaining teaching spaces in a “public-ready” condition.
  • It is expected that this position must be available to work a full Summer Nature Program schedule from June 26 – August 21, 2024, including an initial training session in mid-June.

Compensation Information

Each position is compensated at least to New Jersey Minimum Wage of $15.13/hr.  

Some positions compensated more commensurate with experience.
