The ABQ BioPark is now hiring for camp staff! Spend your summer at our zoo, aquarium, or botanic garden as a camp teacher. Create curriculum, run programs with campers, and experience behind the scenes areas of the BioPark with horticulturists and animal care staff. Camp runs June through July, full time and part time positions are available.

Summary

The NM BioPark Society is now hiring teachers for spring break and summer educator roles at the Albuquerque BioPark’s Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden.  These positions are hired through RivenRock (a temporary staffing agency), and are funded through the NM BioPark Society.  All hired teachers must attend training in May and be available for work from the week of June 3-July 26. Both full and part time positions are available. 

The minimum education and experience requirements are a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in science, education, or a related field, plus 6 months teaching experience, formal or informal, preferably in the sciences.  Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.  All applicants must pass a background check.

The individuals selected as the Camp BioPark Teachers will:

  • Conduct one or more of 15 different week-long day camps for grades K-1, 2-3, 4-6 or 7-9.  See www.cabq.gov for a complete list of classes.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans and activities for the assigned class
  • Promote conservation through experiential learning utilizing the BioPark’s exhibits and grounds
  • Maintain a safe learning environment
  • Engage each child in an active, inquiry based, child-centered atmosphere
  • Supervise volunteers assigned to assist with each Camp BioPark classes
  • Communicate effectively with BioPark staff, campers and parents/guardians of campers
  • Perform general administrative tasks associated with Camp BioPark

Teacher Work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for full-day camps or 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or 12:00-4:30 p.m. for half-day camps.  Not all camps are offered every week.  Camp BioPark runs from June 3-July 26 with clean up time provided the following week. Paid training and prep time are available May 6-June 3.

Compensation Information

Pay rate: $16 per hour; hours per week varies with assignment
