Summary

The Straub Outdoors Education Coordinator assists in developing, organizing, and supporting our educators as they provide direct instruction and lead activities for school-age youth in a variety of outdoor and classroom environments in accordance with our organization’s educational philosophies, teaching methodologies, and mission.

Straub Outdoors education team members are positive, enthusiastic individuals who provide diverse student groups with meaningful experiences in nature's classroom! Our ecology-focused lessons are enriched with activities that support creativity, socio-emotional wellness, cultural-ecological knowledge, physical fitness, wilderness skills, and environmental stewardship.

Straub Outdoors offers three outdoor school (ODS) models for students in Grades 5-6 who attend public, private or homeschool. See the Outdoor School page on our website (https://strauboutdoors.org/outdoor-school) for more information about each option. Each in-person outdoor school session includes field studies plus pre- and/or post-trip classroom visits.

We also offer community (out-of-school) programs for children ages 6-13, including summer science day and overnight camps and field trips on school in-service days. For more information about our current and upcoming community programs, visit: https://strauboutdoors.org/summer-camps.

One of our organization’s top priorities is serving Latino/a/x/e-identifying students, Spanish-speaking English Language Learners, students living in rural areas of Oregon, and students experiencing socio-economic hardship. Conversational Spanish fluency is highly valued but not required for this position.

Many of the job responsibilities associated with this position are completed in partnership with one or more of our organization's education consultants, naturalist-advisers, and instructional coaches, with additional support, oversight, and resources provided by the Executive Director.
