Love teaching but don't want to be in a classroom? Straub Outdoors is seeking educators with a love of the outdoors, experience working with elementary or middle school students, and a college degree in education to join our team for our 2024 program season (late February through late August). Seasonal educators are employed full-time and are compensated on an hourly basis. A limited number of homestay opportunities with host families are available for employees relocating to Salem, Oregon, from out of state.

Summary

Straub Outdoors educators are positive, enthusiastic individuals who provide diverse student groups with meaningful experiences in nature's classroom. Our ecology-focused lessons are enriched with activities that support creativity, socio-emotional wellness, cultural-ecological knowledge, physical fitness, wilderness skills, and environmental stewardship. One of our top priorities is serving Latinx-identifying students and English Language Learners. Conversational fluency in Spanish is highly valued but not required for this position.

Hours: 30-55 hours per week (average of 40 hours per week). Paid hours include travel time from our Salem offices to regional program locations. Travel in Western Oregon and overnight stays at program locations are required for this position (approximately four days per week in the spring and occasionally in the summer). Working hours normally take place Mondays-Fridays with most weekends off. Educators must be available for day, evening, and overnight shifts. Weekend professional development, planning/prep, and direct instruction are also occasionally required with advance notice.

Minimum qualifications:

1. Bachelor's or associate degree in education.

2. Two or more years (at least 24 months) of experience working with children in childcare, after-school programs, youth camps, or classroom settings.
