The Georgia Sea Turtle Center, located on Jekyll Island, is dedicated to maintaining the delicate balance between nature and humankind through wildlife education, research, and rehabilitation. We are looking for enthusiastic and innovative educators to develop and assess hands-on, inquiry-based programs that encourage exploration and stewardship of sea turtles and the natural environment.
Summary
Selected Educators will:
- Coordinate select public, youth, and outreach programming and events (ex. Guided tours, Adopt-a-Sea Turtle program, guided beach walks, scout programming)
- Develop and implement field trip curriculum using performance measures, cross-cutting concepts, and imbedded evaluation.
- Interpret medical procedures, wildlife conservation strategies, and stewardship actions to a diversity of visitors from within all areas of the center.
- Spearhead specific programmatic and curriculum aspects of the department in conjunction with Education Program Manager; implement revisions, evaluations, and summary reports.
- Collaborate with contractors and internal teams for program, outreach, and event implementation.
- Provide direct support and supervision to seasonal staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Work with internal and external partners to identify curricular and workforce needs and implement identified improvements.
- Participate in departmental and center operations including guest experience, group reservations, and administrative/teaching/interpretive support.
- Oversee public programming and general admission traffic; coordinate with interpretive staff, volunteer docents, gift shop staff and reservations staff, ensuring quality guest experiences.
- Create and edit educational copy and assets such as email marketing materials, website content, online publications, and social media posts as assigned.
- Facilitate the recruitment, training, and quality involvement of volunteers in department in coordination with the Volunteer Program Manager.
- Performs multiple tasks simultaneously, calmly, and efficiently in a high-pressure setting.
- Uses independent judgment, personal experience, and training to ensure quality guest interactions and exceptional customer service according to policy.
- Assist in providing daily care of a collection of reptile educational ambassadors.
Compensation Information
Pay: $16.88-20.88 per hour (DOQ)
