Woodford County Conservation District is dedicated to empowering our county’s citizens to protect our natural resources through Conservation and Education! We are looking for a dynamic, motivated EELCorps member to help us design and implement environmental education programs and annual events within Woodford County schools and communities. This self-starting individual will mentor high school students as they prepare for the state Envirothon program; Envirothon is a conservation problem-solving, teambuilding and leadership experience and competition for high school students nationwide.

Working in the hub of the Agriculture Resource Building, the EEL Corps member will learn firsthand how WCCD provides technical and financial assistance for homeowners and landowners to protect natural resources in our county. They will also be working next door to Farm Service Agency, Fish & Wildlife, and WC Co-op Extension, all housed together. The Member will also get to work with KAEE’s Outdoor Learning Symposium 2024 as we coordinate with WC Board of Education, learning from both organizations’ leadership. We want an enthusiastic, community-minded Member who will help reconnect our county with a strong environmental education program, leading up to OLS 2024, and get our Woodford County Middle and High Schoolers into a program to carry us boldly forward.

Summary

Our member, through current and future programming, will help reconnect the District with local schools, and young people of our community with nature. They will inspire them in the conservation of natural resources for our future and the health of our environment. By developing and teaching a curriculum for Middle and High School students, our member's service will be especially beneficial to generate focused, young conservationists.

The EELCorps member will provide activities for Woodford County students and families participating in WCCD’s school-based education programs, as well as all community members via community education programs. Programs include: the Jim Claypool Art & Writing Contest and subsequent Spring Fling Awards; annual Tree Seedling Giveaway county-wide; Soil Stewardship Week; Ag Safety Day; Woodford County Farm Tour; and Woodford Senior Citizen program which connects Woodford Schools 2nd graders with the Senior Citizens Center.

Hours will be flexible, spanning 675hrs from January-August (ex. 4.25hrs x 5days / week x 8 months). Therefore able to negotiate in order for the Member to have a second job, or work around childcare/homeschooling.
