Summary
The BI program reaches over 100 schools a year by teaching students a range of ecosystems in the Lowcountry. These areas include over 300 acres with nearly a mile of beach, salt marsh and undisturbed maritime forest, including ponds and freshwater swamps.
Position Duration
August 19, 2024 – May 16, 2025
Responsibilities
Educate students in grades K-12 in environmental-based classes in the outdoor classroom, with topics like Beach Ecology, Forest Ecology and Wetlands. Other topics include Herpetology, Ornithology, Orienteering, and various team-building activities. There are also opportunities to assist with animal care, maintenance of trail systems, and aid in curriculum development, and other camp responsibilities. Because St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center is a thriving Christian community, Barrier Island staff have the opportunity to participate in Bible studies and weekly chapel.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required. A focus on education, biology, or environmental science is preferred but not necessary. An interest in teaching, communicating, and displaying God’s love with grade-school students is essential.
How to Apply
Applications only accepted through the Barrier Island Website external link (https://stchristopher.org/barrier-island/employment/). If you have any questions regarding application process, programming, or the facility, contact Liz Pigg, Assistant Director of Environmental Education at epigg@stchristopher.org.
