Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) is the only combined zoo and aquarium in the Pacific Northwest. The 29-acre zoological park was established in 1905 and attracts about 700,000 visitors a year. It is nationally accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), which ensures rigorously high standards of animal welfare, veterinary care, conservation, education and more.

Summary

Under the direction of the Guest Engagement Programs Coordinator this position participates in the planning, development, and implementation of programs for youth and families. Examples include summer and winter day camps (ages 4-14), overnight experiences (primarily youth groups with chaperones), and other on-site programming for youth in group settings. The person in this position will also be responsible for some day-to-day operations of these programs including program instruction as assigned. During program implementation this position requires significant physical activity (see Additional Information). The Guest Engagement Group Programs Specialist is part of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium’s Conservation Engagement Department and works within a collaborative team including program instructors, volunteers and other members of the department and organization.

Compensation Information

SALARY: $20.39 - $22.53 hourly

JOB TYPE: Part-Time Benefits eligible (Medical and PTO)

HOURS:

This position is year-round and averages 35 hours per week, with ~40 hours per week during May – August and ~30 hours per week during September – April.  Some weekend, evening, and holiday work required as scheduled. One position available. Benefits included.

ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions.

September-May, this position is primarily based in an office environment. However, they will be a part of a creative and passionate (and fun) team of co-workers!
