Maine TREE seeks a dynamic professional to serve as Holt Research Forest Fellow. The Fellow will
lead a data management initiative, contribute to ongoing research at Holt Research Forest in
Arrowsic, Maine, and contribute to Maine TREE’s forest-based education efforts.
The Holt Research Forest Fellow role is hybrid eligible. The Fellow will regularly be required to work
from Holt Research Forest in Arrowsic, ME to collect, manage, and analyze data. Travel to Maine
TREE’s Augusta office will be required occasionally to attend all staff meetings. The Fellow will
additionally have the opportunity to travel 1 to 3 days per month to meetings throughout Maine for
forest-based research and education events.

Summary

The Holt Research Forest Fellow will have excellent organization, communication, and research
skills; possess the ability to work alone, outdoors, and in remote locations; and demonstrate a
passion for advancing sustainable forestry in Maine. The Fellow will be responsible for managing
Holt Research Forest datasets, developing science communication initiatives to tell the story of
important findings to regional landowners and community members, and leading a team of summer
research technicians to collect ecosystem monitoring data. Previous experience in research, forestry,
communication, and project management is highly desirable. This position reports to the Forest
Programs Manager.

The Fellow will:
● Conduct an inventory of Holt Research Forest data and develop a plan for updating the HRF
research project on the University of Vermont’s Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative
Website.
● Identify stories of importance in Holt Research Forest datasets.
● Develop communication initiatives to share stories of importance with regional landowners
and community members.
● Plan and conduct on-site regeneration monitoring, updating established systems and
protocols on an as-needed basis.
● Support Maine TREE’s forest-based education initiatives, including working closely with
summer forestry technicians and contributing to on-site field tours.

Compensation Information

This position is a 12-month, grant-funded role. The hired candidate may have the opportunity to
grow into a full-time position if funding and organizational priorities allow. A health insurance
stipend and dental insurance will be provided. On-site housing is available starting February 1, 2024.
The hourly rate for the position will be $20/ hr.
