Job Summary
Serves as the primary point of contact for community outreach events and initiatives to share  Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC)’s education messaging with the public. This individual is  responsible for the successful development and facilitation of engaging outreach activities that align with LMC’s mission and vision.

This individual is a proven ocean advocate, experienced educator and scientific communicator, a positive team-player, passionate about sharing ocean science and conservation with others, thrives when public speaking and understands the value of diverse learning styles. The Community Engagement Coordinator will successfully find creative ways to engage community stakeholders such as hoteliers, visitors, local residents and local businesses in coastal conservation and share best practices when in, on and around the water. Providing meaningful, immersive and project-based learning experiences for all ages will be a core element of this position. Bilingual South Florida residents encouraged to apply.

Core Responsibilities
● Serve as primary point of contact for mission-centric community event requests, community partnerships in education, and outreach activities
● Coordinate, facilitate and represent LMC at community events and outreach programs
● Design, develop and maintain engaging educational displays and materials for outreach events and community programming
● Develop innovative activities that promote LMC’s unique messaging through hands-on, engaging and interactive conservation education
● Create bi-weekly educational content for LMC’s electronic communications that feature conservation tips and culturally-responsive calls to action (CTAs), working collaboratively with community partners as appropriate
● Responsible for creating opportunities for volunteer involvement at community engagement events, including training, resource development, scheduling and volunteer communication
● Assist in the development and coordination of community restoration projects, promoting community involvement and service learning opportunities
● Assist with the development of community engagement events on campus for iconic conservation holidays such as Earth Day, World Ocean Day and Blue Friday
● Collect quantitative and qualitative data during community engagement activities to support the education department’s research development projects
● Coordinate LMC mascot scheduling, appearances and communication
● Collaborate with peers to lead educational tours and facilitate educational programming as needed
● Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
● Self-motivated; passionate about ocean health and the importance of scientific communication
● Must be extremely comfortable and thrive delivering environmental education programs for multigenerational groups, as well as the ability to organize small and large groups in dynamic environments and professional settings
● Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or hold a minimum of three (3) years professional experience facilitating ocean education in an outdoor setting
● Must be an experienced swimmer and extremely comfortable in aquatic environments. Open Water SCUBA certification preferred.
● Demonstrated understanding of marine science, current global issues affecting ocean health, as  well as the ability to deliver a systems-thinking approach to program development
● Must thrive in a highly-visible, learner-facing environment, including virtual, indoor and outdoor spaces and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
● Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft programs, such as Publisher, EXCEL, and Word.
● Knowledge designing and developing educational materials across various mediums
● Must pass an annual Level 2 background screening through DCF Clearinghouse.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This position may involve working outdoors in Florida, often in hot and humid conditions, and at events that extend into evening and weekend hours. Must be willing and able to travel for offsite programming and possess a valid driver’s license.

This is a salaried and exempt position. The successful incumbent may be required to perform tasks beyond the scope of this job description as requested by the supervisor. This recruitment may be used to select candidates for additional open positions. It is our policy that all team members, including newly hired, transferred, and promoted team members, will be carefully monitored and evaluated for an initial introductory 3 month period on the job. After satisfactory completion of the introductory evaluation, such team members will be evaluated on an annual basis.
