Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Director of Compensation and Benefits is responsible for managing the compensation and benefit programs, policies and procedures to align with the organization’s goals and competitive practices.  This position is also responsible for ensuring that The Trustees compensation and benefit programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations.   

Summary

Duties/Responsibilities:

Compensation Management

  • Manage the development, implementation and administration of compensation programs.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommend changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and organization objectives.

  • Provide advice to The Trustees leaders on pay decisions, policy interpretations and job evaluations.

  • Design creative specific compensation-related programs and incentive plans.

  • Develop techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data.

  • Oversee the participation in salary surveys and monitor salary survey data to ensure The Trustees compensation objectives are achieved.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.

  • Responsible for annual review process and salary planning.

  • Conduct compensation analysis

 

Benefits Management

  • Oversee the daily administration of group benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability, FSA, etc.)

  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.

  • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce cost and increase efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations.  Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting.

  • Reconcile, code and submit for payment all benefits-related invoices. 

  • Analyze current benefits, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience and competitive trends in benefits programs.

  • Perform plan audits.

  • Responsible for annual renewal process evaluating and analyzing the renewal as presented by the benefits broker.

  • Manage open enrollment planning, communication, and implementation.

  • Prepare and file all 5500 reports and schedules.

  • Process 401k and 457b elections and track and activate eligibility for employer match, process deferral changes for payroll.

  • Approve benefit enrollments.  

  • Administer Leaves of Absences, navigating the intersections of FMLA, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Trustees paid time off, Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave

Qualifications:

  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS (Paycom preferred)

  • Solid project management skills including attention to detail, highly organized.

  • Strong analytical skills and thorough knowledge of plan designs.

  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs,

  • Ability to understand customer’s needs, offer solutions and follow up to ensure user success.

  • Extensive knowledge of HR process, procedures and policies

  • High level of professionalism, tact, discretion and diplomacy required for dealing with personnel at all levels of the organization; ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills

  • High aptitude for detail with commitment to accuracy

  • Non-profit experience is a plus.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or related field, and minimum of seven years of experience in compensation and benefits.

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) preferred.

  • Knowledge of state/federal legislations of benefits plans (PFMLA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA)

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as job duties demand. Travel to other Trustees’ work sites in Massachusetts is occasionally required.
