About This Position
Wildwood, Mass Audubon’s residential, summer camp is committed to developing environmental leaders in a nature-immersive, inclusive, and dynamic community. As the leader of Wildwood, the Wildwood Director has overall responsibility for the culturally responsive design, management, and evaluation of the summer resident camp for ages 10-14, leadership programs for high school students, teen adventure trips, and Family Camp for all ages. 

In collaboration with the core team at Wildwood and staff at Mass Audubon Headquarters, the Wildwood Director will coordinate and manage all aspects of Camp Wildwood including program development and innovation, camper and staff recruitment, staff professional development and management, site planning and management, marketing, budget management, fundraising, and community engagement. 

As Mass Audubon’s only residential Camp Director, the Wildwood Director will participate in leadership opportunities and represent Mass Audubon regionally and nationally in the camping and environmental education profession. The Director must ensure that Wildwood meets American Camping Association (ACA) standards and required license regulations by the State of New Hampshire.

As a member of the Statewide Education Leadership team the Wildwood Director will play a key role in annual and strategic planning in education for the organization as well as building a statewide community of educators aligned with strategic priorities and statewide education outcomes. Responsibilities
 
Staff Management and Supervision 

• Manage a camp team that works collaboratively to advance education, operations, and facility priorities
• Recruit, hire, train, support, and evaluate camp at all levels staffing including full time, part time and seasonal staff
• Encourage staff growth and professional development through high quality orientations, onboarding and ongoing workshops and trainings
• Build and steward a committed team of educators and camp professionals committed to the operation of a safe, inclusive experience that fosters community and environmental leadership. 

Administrative Management of Education at Wildwood

• Refine, communicate, and implement the Wildwood vision and identified programmatic outcomes
• Ensure a balanced portfolio of programs and activities that effectively meet the desired impact and financial goals of Mass Audubon and Wildwood
• Oversee implementation and monitoring/evaluation of all Wildwood programs and activities
• Development and monitoring of annual plans and budgets
• Oversee and ensure effective risk mitigation and management for all Wildwood programs and activities including accountability to Mass Audubon safety policies and all regulatory and accreditation requirements
• Attend weekly manager meetings and serve as part of the Education Leadership Team at Mass Audubon
• Represent Mass Audubon in the local community in a positive and constructive manner
• Teach and/or lead programs, trainings and other activities as needed

Communications, Community Relationships and Marketing 

• Build and steward collaborative relationships with camping, environmental education, climate education, and social sector leaders
• Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team to develop a comprehensive camper recruitment and marketing plan, including ongoing family engagement
• Present at conferences, publish articles, and/or actively promote the Wildwood summer program

Site & Operational Management

• Coordinate with Mass Audubon headquarters staff regarding programmatic, operational, and human resources policies and procedures
• Coordinate with colleagues in Wildlife Sanctuaries and Conservation Science Division on land conservation and resource stewardship priorities
• Provide project management on short- and long-term site and infrastructure planning and facility maintenance, renovations and upgrades in collaboration with Wildwood Property Manager and Wildlife Sanctuaries colleagues
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with neighbors, local partners, educational institutions, and New Hampshire state and local officials
• Coordinate with Development team on fundraising for annual operations and capital campaigns in coordination with the Mass Audubon Philanthropy Division

Statewide Coordination and Integration  

• Collaborate with the team of Regional Education Managers and the Mass Audubon Education Department to further the goals of education across the state by attending staff meetings, offering input and assistance, communicating needs, and representing Mass Audubon as a leader in environmental education and nature-based camping
• Collaboratively design, produce and analyze quarterly and annual statistical and narrative reports on education programs

Must Haves

• Experienced leader in youth development, camping, youth leadership, and nature-based education
• Strong experience in management and supervision of camp staff responsible for program development and implementation, childcare, office management, facilities management, and communications
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in residential camp/environmental education programming, non-profit management, program coordination, or environmental education, and at least four of which are in a supervisory capacity
• Experience in leading and managing a multi-faceted site that provides outstanding care, youth development, leadership development, and environmental education
• Ability to support, supervise, and inspire staff and develop a strong working team
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in public speaking
• Experience developing and implementing annual program plans and budgets
• Deep familiarity with culturally responsive program design and the ability to guide a team in fostering inclusive learning and living environments
• Strong understanding of ACA accreditation and working with state regulations for operating residential camps
• Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with camp leaders and community-based organizations and partners
• Flexibility and ability to respond to rapidly changing priorities, deadlines, building and stewarding teams and working as an effective team member
• Ability to respond effectively in an emergency on the property
• Ability to travel within New England 
• Ability to successfully obtain CPR/First Aid certification

Nice to Haves

• Experience and training in Culturally Responsive Teaching or equity-based pedagogies
• Experience with project or program evaluation
• Experience in individual and foundation fundraising
• Working knowledge of a second language

Work Schedule
This is a year-round position that requires living at Wildwood Camp from May through September and the Wildwood Director must live in private housing at the camp in Rindge, NH. Travel is required throughout New England. The position work schedule includes evening and weekend responsibilities, with extensive director on duty responsibility during the summer months.

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
