Maine TREE is looking for a Communication Coordinator to help us build our outreach about our forest-based programs. Please see the description for more details!

Summary

Maine Timber Research & Environmental Education Foundation (Maine TREE) seeks a part-time Communication Coordinator to share information about their forest-based research, education, and outreach programs. The Coordinator will administer the organization's communication network, create outreach initiatives, and develop content for various audiences. Successful applicants will have a deep connection with Maine's forests and be interested in forestry education, conservation, or research. Maine TREE is an independent, private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and advocate for the sustainable use of the forest and the ecological, economic, and social health of Maine's forest community. They host several forest-based programs focusing on education, research, and community. Position Description: The Communication Coordinator will have excellent organizational, communication, and written skills, possess the ability to work outdoors and demonstrate a passion for advancing sustainable forestry in Maine. Previous experience in forestry, conservation, research, or communication is highly desirable. This position reports to the Forest Programs Manager.

As Communication Coordinator, you will work closely with the Maine TREE team to promote the organization's work across the state and increase public awareness. You may travel 2 to 3 days monthly throughout Maine for education and outreach events, workshops, and meetings. The position is a hybrid work structure, with work-from-home opportunities and occasional travel to offices in Augusta, Arrowsic, or Portland for team meetings. Office work will include planning and implementing projects and creating, writing, and scheduling program-related content for websites, social media, and newsletters. The Coordinator will: • Communicate program news and updates for all Maine TREE programs through websites, newsletters, and social media. • Support the implementation of education and outreach activities for various audiences, including foresters, landowners, loggers, and others. • Develop content associated with various outreach initiatives and programs. • Support fundraising activities. • Assist in programming and outreach aspects of programs as assigned, including but not limited to the Forests of Maine Teachers' Tours, Forest Ecology Research Network, Maine Project Learning Tree, Maine Tree Farm, and Certified Logging Professionals.

Qualifications: • Capacity to communicate clearly through an array of media • A general understanding of Maine's ecology, economy, and forest-based communities. • Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends. • Possessing a valid driver's license and ability to travel, primarily in Maine. • Ability to work both independently and with a team. • An interest in the long-term stewardship of Maine's forests. Skills: • Communication skills with proficiency in writing, speaking and listening to diverse audiences. • Strong technology/computer skills, including experience using Google Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, and social media platforms.

Compensation Information

This position is part-time (average 10 hours per week), starting at $20/hour. Activities and responsibilities will vary with the seasons, funding, priorities, and interests. The position is hybrid, primarily working from home, with some travel expected to Maine TREE's offices in Augusta, Arrowsic, and Portland, Maine.
