Summary

The Idaho Rangeland Resources Commission is seeking a dynamic, energetic, innovative individual to oversee and implement all aspects of the rangeland education program. The target audiences include school grades K-12, teachers, homeschoolers, and other non-traditional educational groups. IRRC provides a variety of educational materials and tools, including supplemental lessons and activities developed around a traveling IROAM trailer and tents. This position will implement existing programs utilizing current tools with the expectation to expand and adapt all aspects of educational programming to meet the strategic needs of IRRC. This position reports to the Executive Director of the IRRC, who reports to the IRRC Board.

The Rangeland Educator is expected to do the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, manage, distribute, and implement cross-curricular rangeland education programs.
  • Write, edit, and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Organize, coordinate logistics, and deliver program materials to various audiences.
  • Use K-12 science standards and educational principles to achieve learning objectives.
  • Represent IRRC in a professional manner by maintaining high standards and scientific credibility.

 Examples of Duties:

  • Distribute educational lessons, activities, presentations, and materials to students and teachers statewide.
  • Develop strategy for advancing rangeland education in Idaho by assessing current comparable programs, demographics, and educational structure in different schools.
  • Research and incorporate current education efforts in various forms to stimulate creative ideas for material and program development.
  • Develop effective programs to integrate and supplement existing curriculum which can deliver rangeland science in a unique way to a wider audience.
  • Develop creative and technically correct written rangeland materials for a variety of applications and delivery modes.
  • Augment and adapt existing rangeland education and outreach materials with products that convey sustainable rangeland management, stewardship, and multiple-use concepts.
  • Supervise and coach volunteers, facilitators and teachers implementing IRRC programs through regular contact, evaluation, training, and support as needed.
  • Participate in educational outreach activities sponsored by the IRRC by giving presentations, answering inquiries, and presenting at workshops, events, or field days.
  • Review, align and update lessons and activities with current state standards as needed.
  • Develop metrics to measure effectiveness of program impacts.
  • Report status updates regularly to the director and board to ensure strategic goals are met.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, science, or natural resource/rangeland related field or comparable experience.
  • Responsible, dependable, and enthusiastic about teaching rangeland topics.
  • Experience in educating and working with students of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Proficient with MS Office programs.
  • Ability to load, carry, set up educational tents, trailer, and displays.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. 
  • Driver’s License required.
  • Pass background check to work with youth audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of livestock grazing and rangeland management.
  • Experience developing programs and/or teaching in a formal or non-formal environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing Idaho state educational standards.
  • Experience with writing and managing grants.

Location and Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, remote, flexible hybrid within the state of Idaho.
  • Flexibility to work outside of the regular full-time schedule when applicable.
  • Ability to attend special events and work outdoors in inclement weather as needed.
  • Idaho statewide travel required as needed.

Compensation Information

Compensation:

  • Salary range starts at $22/hour commensurate based on experience and education.
  • This position is exempt from the rules of classified service under provisions of Section 67-5303, Idaho Code. This position is educational professional exempt from overtime.
