We are hiring a Conservation Engagement Specialist to support community science and conservation education at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. This position will facilitate engaging community science opportunities, support conservation partner activities, and engage zoo audiences (both internal and external) in the care and protection of nature.

Summary

Essential Duties

  • Work with the Conservation Engagement Coordinator to facilitate a series of community science programs that align with PDZA’s Strategic goals and Signature initiatives, including training volunteers, managing data, supporting field work, and serving as a liaison with partners.
  • Facilitate components of the Grit City Carnivore Project, a long-term urban carnivore research and community outreach initiative. This includes the quarterly deployment of motion-sensitive cameras throughout Tacoma, managing photo data, and working with the Community Engagement team to develop and deliver educational programs and presentations.
  • Support the engagement of community members, Metro Parks Tacoma staff, and students in conservation action through impactful experiences.
  • Work with the Conservation Engagement Coordinator to achieve shared visions and goals of the zoo’s conservation partners such as the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Aquarium Conservation Partnership, the Wildlife Trafficking Alliance, Northwest Trek Wildlife Park, and academic institutions.
  • Develop outreach materials and represent Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and its conservation initiatives at public facing events and programs.

Compensation Information

Part-time Benefits Eligible

Starting Range: $20.39 - $22.53 Hourly, up to 35 hours a week.
