The Participatory Science Coordinator works closely with the communication manager to provide updated content for Arboretum print and digital publications, with the volunteer coordinator to foster the engagement of volunteers in participatory science initiatives, and with the research program manager to incorporate participatory science-based research projects into Arboretum research goals.
Summary
Key responsibilities include:
- Help to develop monitoring protocols for new and existing projects, facilitate current projects, teach protocols to the public during training sessions and workshops, work with the Research Program Manager to develop new projects that address the Arboretum's mission and strategic goals, and communicate with volunteers.
- Coordinate Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (https://mlmp.org/) activities in North America by developing and leading in-person and virtual training sessions, responding to help-line queries, writing a quarterly newsletter, providing data to researchers, and facilitating monitoring of Arboretum MLMP sites.
- Coordinate current Arboretum monitoring projects including dragonflies, bluebird boxes, water quality, and a SnapShot Wisconsin camera https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/research/projects/snapshot).
- Develop collaborative partnerships between the Arboretum and UW-Madison researchers and participatory science program managers, and non-University program coordinators.
- Collaborate with project leads to support detailed record keeping, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Collaborate with project leads and Arboretum staff to share participatory science activities and results in a variety of media formats.
- Lead or participate in in-person and online participatory science training sessions and other events.
- Engage diverse audiences in programming through recruitment, inclusive project protocols, data sharing, and projects that are culturally relevant.
