We are looking for an experienced and passionate Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in education and love the outdoors. Collaboratively creating engaging and interactive lessons for students, working with other staff to meet our child led model and infusing daily lessons with students' curiosities are just a few attributes we hope this candidate possesses.

Summary

The successful candidate will be able to meet each child where they are, engage them on their level and gently coax their true nature to the surface for them to see! We are looking for someone who loves PNW forests rain or shine, someone who can be flexible as we work through the kinks of our new little nonprofit school and someone who is looking for an intentional community to be a part of.

Lead Teacher

Qualifications:

  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 50 pounds daily from the bus to the shelter.
  • Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven trails, up steep hills, wade through water, and stand for the majority of the day.
  • Must be able to get up and down from a seated position on the ground multiple times per day.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a closely related field
  • Experience as a teacher or assistant (at least 2 years preferred)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage a classroom of young students

The Lead teacher is expected to work approximately 25-28 hours per week. Lead teachers will be physically present at school between 8:30-2:15, Monday through Thursday. Lead teachers also attend a one hour planning/collaboration meeting after school one day each week as well as a five hour planning session two times per month on Fridays. Four, three-hour long staff trainings throughout the school year will be mandatory for all staff. Attendance at seasonal celebrations not during school hours is strongly encouraged. Salary will be discussed based on experience and education. Lead teachers who have their own children enrolled in our school can negotiate tuition.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

First and foremost a lead teacher at DTE has a willingness to shift lessons and flex to the inquiry of the children as well as value play and child-led nature immersion. They see value in children taking ownership over their own education and know when and how much information to offer.

  • Lead teachers are responsible for spending time at their own discretion to plan and prepare lessons for their class for the week, answer parent emails, and perform other basic administrative tasks. The executive director will do the majority of communication with families, and will also be available to assist with planning and procurement of materials.
  • Lead teachers submit materials for the newsletter and involve the DCI(Director of Curriculum and Instruction) in one on one needs for students in their class. Additionally, monthly emails to families with classroom updates regarding curriculum and upcoming topics sent around the same time.
  • Lead teachers are responsible for instruction for their class in reading, writing, science and mathematics.
  • Lead teachers work with all classes to teach an enrichment subject such as music, art, outdoor skills, etc.
  • Lead teachers maintain student records and report on student progress twice per year.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $19.00 - $28.00 per hour
