Camp Ondessonk serves people of all ages on our property in the Shawnee National Forest. Waterfalls, canyons, and hills make this area a hidden gem. We are a Catholic youth camp providing outdoor experiences in an amazing natural setting. Our instructors cultivate appreciation of nature by immersing participants in the outdoors through teambuilding, low/high challenge courses, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, horseback rides, Family Camps, adult programs, spiritual retreats, & more.
Summary
Primary Responsibilities: Program facilitation for Outdoor Education groups, Specialty/Volunteer Weekends, and Afterschool Programs encompass about 60-70% of the workload.
- Serving as group leader and facilitator for Camp Ondessonk's outdoor education and afterschool programs for youth ages 6-14. Programs include: Teambuilding, low and high challenge course activities, guided interpretive hikes, outdoor living skills, boating, campfires, astronomy, and more.
- Assisting in the facilitation of Specialty Weekends including Mother/Daughter, Family Camp, Father/Son, etc.
- Leading and facilitating adult learning programs such as hiking and boating.
Secondary Responsibilities: Logistical work including food service, lodging prep/cleaning, health and sanitation, and daily horse feeding encompass about 30-40% of the workload.
- Logistical work and cleaning for school groups, specialty weekends, and weekend guests.
- Assisting in preparation and facilitation of meals and dining hall maintenance
- Assisting in the daily feeding and general care of our Stables and 70+ horse herd, and some programming
- Staffing Camp Ondessonk's Trading Post and Camp Store for school groups and weekend guests • Other duties as assigned

Compensation Information
- $442 per week paid bi-weekly ($884 per paycheck) - Ability to earn an additional up to $30 per week based on degrees, certifications, and experience.
- Meals provided when groups are served
- Shared, single-gender housing and utilities provided, usually one person per bedroom
- Qualification for many outdoor gear and clothing pro-deals
- Financial assistance for trainings, certifications, & conferences
- A 983-acre backyard of forest, bluffs, valleys, and waterfalls immediately adjacent Shawnee National Forest
- Easy 2–3-hour drive to St. Louis and Nashville.
- Instructors are not required to stay in a cabin with students & retire to their on-site residences at night
- 2-3-week training program on hard & soft skills relating to leadership development, outdoor recreation, & education.
