Summary

We are seeking the next leader for Wisconsin’s Green Fire: Voices for Conservation (WGF). Our deep bench of natural resource professionals contribute their expertise to significant issues. We advise policy and publish on Wisconsin's greatest conservation challenges such as clean water, biodiversity, natural climate solutions, and land use practices. We serve a unique and growing role providing trusted information in Wisconsin on natural resources conservation. We support the development of future conservation leaders through mentoring programs, scholarships, and fellowships.

WGF maintains a non-partisan stance applying sound science to current issues. We strive to maintain the integrity of the information and how we report it to the citizens and decision-makers with utmost clarity. Our work is accomplished by a small highly collaborative staff and a community of volunteers whose careers have been devoted to their specialties in natural resources, law, communications, and more. Our core values include a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice throughout our work. Our volunteers and staff have a large and influential network in Wisconsin. WGF currently has a staff of six, an operating budget over $400,000 and over 600 members.

Position Responsibilities

  • Build and lead an effective team dedicated to fulfilling the organization’s mission through highly successful programs, community engagement, and fundraising.
  • Create strategic plans for achieving goals and objectives set in collaboration with board of directors.
  • Meet annual fundraising goals, in partnership with board of directors and with development director, securing financial support from foundations, corporations, individual donors, and government funding sources.
  • Serve as the spokesperson of the organization and participate in external events to increase visibility, credibility, and market brand, and develop strategic partnerships to further increase community awareness and expand programs.
  • Manage staff members and clients whose experiences, cultures, and languages reflect the community served by the organization.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of experience with nonprofit organizations, public agencies, or private sector businesses or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofit organizations.
  • Proven success working with a board of directors.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with innovative approach to strategic planning.
  • Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in environmental sciences, social sciences, communications, or similar fields
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills

Compensation Information

This is a full-time (100% FTE) salaried position. The starting salary + health insurance stipend range is $85,000 - $100,000. WGF offers a benefits package including paid holidays, paid time off, and a home office stipend. Candidates must have access to a home office or other suitable Wisconsin-based workspace. This position will require occasional paid travel in Wisconsin, including some overnights. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle suitable for (reimbursable) statewide travel.
