Summary
Washington Service Corps and project host site, Palouse Conservation District (PCD), are actively seeking an AmeriCorps Member to serve as the Education and Monitoring Technician to manage volunteer opportunities and deliver environmental education services to our local community through a citizen science water quality program, as well as assist in restoration project implementation and environmental monitoring and assessment.
The three main goals of this position are to:
- Improve water quality by participating in effectiveness monitoring of conservation practices;
- To coordinate volunteer participation of a citizen science program;
- To educate and raise community awareness on the importance of stewardship behaviors and conservation practices that influence water quality and pollution impacts.
Bridged between two departments, member will serve with the Research and Monitoring Departmental staff on projects focused on environmental restoration and agricultural conservation practices, assessing the effectiveness of conservation best management practices on the landscape.
Additionally, the member will serve with Education and Outreach Departmental staff in classroom and in-person outreach settings focused on environmental education or volunteer recruitment, and managing an in-house citizen science water quality monitoring program.
The member will serve alongside PCD's staff in office, field, and classroom settings.
PCD staff will be available to mentor and train the member on technical aspects of water quality monitoring, riparian restoration, environmental education, and science communication strategies to engage the public. Field equipment will be provided to the member by PCD.
The member will need to be able to serve in varying weather conditions (rain, snow, heat) for extended periods of time, over uneven terrain, and lift up to 40 pounds.

$2,171.43/month stipend with $6,895 education award at the completion of service
