Summary
The Youth Education Coordinator is a full-time, year-round position at Green Bay Botanical Garden in Green Bay, WI that will maintain and advance educational opportunities for children and families to fulfill the mission of Green Bay Botanical Garden to connect people with plants. This position is responsible for coordinating and leading educational programs with schools, childcare facilities, and community groups; planning and leading children & family programs; and collaborating with other departments to promote these programs, as well as supporting the Education Team in implementing other programs as needed.
CORE COMPETENCIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Promote, schedule, and evaluate field trip and outreach programs for schools, childcare facilities, scout groups, and other community youth groups.
- Develop educational programs and self-guided activities for children and families, including creating new and improving existing curriculum.
- Lead scheduled school, youth and adult field trips, and family classes including summer day camps, story time, and gardening activities.
- Administer programs including class registrations, set up, check in, and evaluation.
- Assist the Community Education Coordinator in the development and implementation of educational programming for Garden-wide community days, including Fall Family Festival and Winter Celebration.
- Assist in the management of volunteers and interns to implement programs, including training and scheduling.
- Collaborate with Marketing Department to plan for educational content for interpretive signs, blogs, & social posts, assist in writing and producing content.
- Assist Director of Education & Guest Experience in the development and management of the Education Department budget.
- Participate as a Garden representative in related community groups.
- Attend and assist with Garden events as requested, including WPS Garden of Lights in the winter.
- Fulfill administrative duties as assigned, including creating program events in our event management systems and tracking attendance at educational events.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, education, environmental education, interpretation, environmental science, or related field, with at least 2 years of experience with curriculum writing, program development, and leading programs for a variety of ages, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, including public speaking, with a sincere desire to serve the public.
- Organizational skills and computer skills, including but not limited to: database management, MS Office, general computer knowledge.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and complete tasks demonstrating attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Flexible in working hours and environment, as many events are held outdoors and evenings and weekends are required on occasion.
- Physically able to stand, kneel, or walk for extended periods of time, lift up to 20 lbs, and work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Dependable, reliable, team player.
- Experience working within a non-profit environment and/or using community resources is a plus.
