Delaware State Parks' day camps are fan-favorites! Inspire a love of the outdoors through engaging camp experiences in our two-time award winning state parks this summer.

Summary

Lums Pond State Park is a retreat for urban and suburban residents of northern Delaware, and features the largest freshwater lake in the state as well as GoApe!, a zipline and ropes adventure course. 

Some camps offered this season include Wild in the Park (age 6-9), Wildlife Ranger Adventures (age 7-10), Outdoor Survivors (age 10-13) and more!

Assistant Camp Director is responsible for planning and coordinating activities for summer camps and assists with the supervision of campers, camp staff and the camp program to ensure and maintain a fun, positive and safe camp environment. Essential functions include:

  • May develop and facilitate educational programs for schools and special events.
  • May lead school environmental education programs tied to state standards to increase student understanding of Delaware’s natural and cultural resources.
  • May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
  • Provides general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Distributes interpretive publications.
  • May lead educational and recreational hikes, canoe and kayak trips plus programs for park visitors.
  • May include live animal care and handling.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. At least 20 years of age.
  2.  One year experience working in a camp program for children or young adults.
  3.  One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  4. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming.
  5.  Knowledge of local plants, animals or history.
  6. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

 

Compensation Information

Assistant Camp Director: $14.75/hr
