Program and Camp Manager

The program manager's primary responsibilities are teaching and managing programs our East Bay programs.  We have 5 weeks of summer camps in Richmond as well as a 2 day a week after school program. They also need to help develop and expand the Headwaters Science Institute’s school programs in the Bay Area. This person will work with the program assistant to schedule, and staff the east bay school programs. This person is responsible for planning, teaching, developing, and scheduling all Bay Area summer camps. In support of this effort, the program manager is responsible for the collection and dissemination of all necessary materials for highlighting the programs. As a staff member, they represent and promote Headwaters Science Institute to all potential and current stakeholders including: schools/teachers, donors, program parents, and the public in Northern California and Nevada, and beyond, to increase the reach of programs and perpetuate HSI’s growth. We are especially interested in increasing diversity in program participants with more underserved students. 

Essential Job Function: Program Management and Implementation 

• Organize and teach camp and school programs, including a 2 day a week school program
  • communicate and coordinate with teachers for programs

  • scheduling and training program mentors
  • program materials
  • communication with staff, student parents, and teachers, 
  • reserve overnight accommodations (as needed) and do all necessary program permits
• Teach and mentor for other Headwaters programs and camps as needed
• Work with communications for marketing and outreach plans and participate in marketing media (e.g. videos, blog posts, etc.)
• Plan and staff Headwaters outreach booths and events
• Improve and come up with new ideas for programs including curriculum, and materials
• Conduct program exit surveys, rubrics, and other program metrics: collecting data, work with our data analyst to run analyses, and presenting/summarizing the findings for each program and vertically across seasons
• Fundraising: Help find program sponsorships, connect and call donors and potential donors, write and collaborate with grants as needed. 
• Connect with teachers and expand our current school programs 
• Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:

• Experience teaching science classes (formal or informal education is ok)
• Have background or experience with scientific research or a comparable combination of education and experience as an administrator and previous supervision experience
• Basic Statistics and graphing knowledge
• A strong desire to make a difference and to improve science education
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently with self-discipline and self-motivation
• Adaptability with changing task prioritization
• Possess travel and work schedule flexibility; must be able and willing to have a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends to attend programs, outreach functions/events, as required

• Certified Science Teacher
