Responsibilities
The Wilderness Logistics Coordinator serves on the administration team for summer MEC programming, based on an agreed upon schedule set with the MEC Director. This is a residential camp position, living alongside the camp community in similarly rustic housing amid a busy summer camp schedule. At times, the Coordinator may be called upon for on-call medical services to assess or care for ill campers or staff via the on-site, MEC infirmary. Primarily, this position will serve as one of a team of qualified leadership members to monitor the appropriate administration of prescription medication to students and campers, as well as work with the Wilderness Excursions Supervisor to oversee logistical elements of our overnight backpacking and canoeing excursions.
- Review Camper Medical Forms and Medical Summary Reports to advise MEC leadership on appropriate care for campers.
- Prep wilderness excursion gear (tents, camp stoves, sleeping bags, etc) prior to summer sessions, as well as oversee routine gear checks upon each excursions return.
- Assist Wilderness Excursions Supervisor and Assistant Director on food and supply requisitions and orders
- Prepare necessary MEC Medication Administration Records and documentation to be sent to the Health Care Consultant for acknowledgment at the start of each summer camp session.
- Supervise and mentor Wilderness Trip Assistants during summer sessions
- Review MARS throughout camp sessions to ensure accuracy and minimize errors.
- Support preparations and returns of wilderness expeditions by reviewing MARS, accounting for medications, and ensuring staff are prepared to administer medications in the field.
- Review medical logs and medical treatment reports and work with camp leadership to improve staff treatment standards and skills as appropriate.
- Take inventory of infirmary and trip gear supplies and prepare supply requisitions for camp leadership.
- Inventory and stock first aid kits for overnight excursions
- Provide field-based support for non-emergency medical calls
Qualifications
- Wilderness medicine (WFR or greater) certification from recognized provider or willingness to obtain before camp starts
- CPR/AED, oxygen administration, and epinephrine administration (or equivalence to Red Cross Anaphylaxis Certification)
- Demonstrate competency for above listed responsibilities and duties through documented prior work experience or equivalent experience
- Documented prior experience in youth wilderness trip guiding preferred
- Requires a medical physical, immunizations under MA camp regulations, and background clearances to work in youth setting
- Valid drivers license
- Experience with Salesforce, Dropbox, Google Suite, and Microsoft Suite preferred
- Applicants who can commit for all three seasons preferred
