Make the City of Moab more sustainable! This VISTA will work on water conservation in the red rock desert of southern Utah, as well as 100% renewable energy, Dark Skies, and food waste reduction.

Summary

The City of Moab seeks a VISTA member to coordinate and deliver programming related to water conservation, dark skies, clean energy, and waste management. The VISTA will contribute to creating an equitable, resilient, and sustainable future by enabling residents of Moab to access resources to reduce utility consumption, minimize waste, and reduce the associated costs. This, in effect, contributes to making housing more affordable while simultaneously contributing to a healthier environment.

The ideal candidate will have ideas and drive to move Moab’s initiatives forward. Research skills and creativity will empower the VISTA to design successful water and energy conservation programs. The ability to work independently and in teams will help the VISTA transition from designing programs to collaborating with representatives from the City, local extension services, and other partners to implement them. Additionally, communication skills and creativity will contribute to producing educational materials, interfacing with the community at events, and writing grants. Moab is at the beginning of the long road toward sustainability. The VISTA will find an abundance of opportunities and local partners to implement these programs and build capacity, so these programs continue.
