House In The Wood is a summer camp, outdoor education, and retreat center located on Delavan Lake of Southeastern Wisconsin. A program of Northwestern Settlement, we exist to further our mission in disrupting generational poverty.
Job Description
The Outdoor Education Coordinator is part of a three-person team that works collaboratively to address our mission as a whole, with the specific responsibility for the day-to-day on-site needs of the outdoor education program. They keep the schedule moving and handle anything that comes up during the sessions. The coordinator may also resume the duties of the Outdoor Educator, who teach multiple nature-related lessons (indoors and outdoors) to groups of 10-15 school-age inner-city youth while Implementing best social-emotional learning (SEL) practices. During off-season, Outdoor Education Coordinator will work with partnered schools to engage in school-based activities and/or Chicago based educational programs.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the daily coordination and communication of outdoor education programming between outdoor educators, school group staff, and youth participants

Assist in the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and development of outdoor educators

Lead in supporting school groups with any needs or emergencies between 8 pm and 8 am

Assist with data management, curriculum development, equipment custodianship, and other related tasks

Collaborate with the program team in the full scope of care for live animal ambassadors

Collaborate with the program team in the administration of the Leader in Training and Summer Programs
Ideal Skills/Traits

All applicants must be at least 21 years of age, with or able to obtain a driver’s license

Through onsite provided training, learn and teach/interpret nature-related lessons to youth in a diverse natural environment

Tree Climbing Certification (provided) required within 18 months of hire

Fluent in Spanish and English (written and oral) preferred, but not required
Experience/Education
-
1-2 years of collective experience serving in outdoor education, summer camps, school-based programs, or related fields

College-level degree or certificate in related field preferred, but not required

Compensation Information
$40,000.00 annual salary with benefits. On-site housing is provided. During training and program sessions, food is also included.
