Summary

The EcoVillage provides experiential learning uniting approximately 160 NC State University students around the goals of sustainable living and awareness. The EcoVillage creates beyond-the-classroom experiences through the application of knowledge learned in sustainability-focused courses that encourage students to lead, serve, create, problem-solve and engage in complex issues facing the global community.  This interdisciplinary learning experience allows students to explore their interests in environmental conversation, energy, sustainable industry and business, agriculture, and many of the other 17 Sustainable Development Goal themes identified by the United Nations through service learning, field experiences, social events and educational programing.

The Village Director works closely with campus partners, including the Environmental First Year (ENVFY) Program in the College of Natural Resources, the NC State Sustainability Office and the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling, to scaffold and sequence curricular and co-curricular experiences to promote learning and achievement of program goals and student learning outcomes.  The Village Director teaches at least one section of the Environmental First Year course, ENV 101: Exploring the Environment, for the ENVFY Program in the College of Natural Resources.  The Village Director evaluates the success of the program toward achieving goals and objectives through an assessment plan and strategies that enable data-driven decision making for continuous programmatic improvement.
