Summary
Reporting directly to the Education Curator, this position is responsible for developing and presenting educational programs with a focus on children and teen programs to the public and aquarium visitors, school and pre-K groups, family groups, and other special interest groups. The Youth Experiences Coordinator will prepare curriculum materials, respond to visitor requests and questions, utilize electronic communication systems, and will be responsible for designing, creating, and supervising programs incorporating a variety of experiential learning methods focusing on marine science topics, while incorporating the arts, theater, and music, when applicable. This position will work closely with another Special Activities Coordinator to implement a variety of fee-based programming including facility tours, outdoor recreation programs, scout programs, and other special events. This position works cooperatively with other departments to achieve the overall mission of the Aquarium. Weekend, evening, and holiday work required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing and facilitating teen and children's programs using live animals
- Developing, scheduling, and coordinating school programs, camps, homeschool programs, birthday parties, sleepovers, and teen programs
- Preparing and creating age-appropriate curriculum specific to programs
- Serving as a resource for visitors and community members; evaluating education programs for effectiveness
- Training, supervising, and evaluating interns, volunteers, and temporary staff
Occasional travel is required for Aquarium meetings.
Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid NC driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:

- Experience in developing and presenting effective and engaging public programs in an informal setting in a zoo, aquarium, park, environmental education center, nature center, camp, or museum.
- Experience working with, and supervising, youth in an educational program.
- Experience presenting live animals and responding to questions from participants.
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required.
- Occasional travel is required for Aquarium meetings.
- Must have a valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Management Preferences:
- Experience training, supervising, and evaluating staff and interns.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Biology, Botany, Conservation, Education, History, or Zoology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of museum or related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation Information
**Pay Grade - NC06, Recruitment Range - $32,460 - $45,032**
