Position Title: Summer Camp Educator
Service Dates: June 5, 2023 to September 1, 2023
Location: Trout Lake, WA
Position Description:
In partnership with the Mt. Adams Institute (MAI), Interns will spend the summer executing place-based outdoor science education programs for elementary and middle school students as part of the Mt. Adams Institute’s Education Program. Summer Camps run Monday through Thursday, for campers ages 7-10. During the summer, interns will be the lead instructors on all camps; building their facilitation and curricula development tool sets.
Summer Camp is dedicated to inspiring curiosity about the natural world through outdoor exploration and adventure. This position is an opportunity for a person who has a passion for environmental and science education, outdoor adventure, environmental stewardship and a desire to develop curriculum and hands-on education skills.
Essential Functions
To include, but not limited to:

Collaborate with staff to operate a successful summer camp program. Summer camps operate June 26, 2023 to August 17, 2023.

Lead and support summer camps with other staff members

Instruct students in summer camp curricula and develop programming at times.

Learn and support other camp operations such as driving camp shuttles, family communication and cleaning.

Participate in end of camp season duties such as: gathering feedback, prep for next season, and campus clean-up.
Service Site Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively to the general public, parents, youth, and natural resource managers.

Ability to stay organized, be on top of many moving pieces, and enjoy logistical challenges.

Able to lead, supervise, mentor, and organize youth ages 7-10.

Competent using a computer, internet applications, social media, and a variety of software.

Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to provide documentation.
AmeriCorps Requirements

21-30 years of age at the beginning of service term.
-
U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
-
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.

Ability to commit to the full 13-week term of service from the start date of June 5, 2023 to end date September 1, 2023.

Attend and complete all MAI/AmeriCorps trainings and service requirements including orientation, a career development training the week of August 21, and graduation.
Compensation Information
Benefits include:

$5,850 living allowance ($450 weekly, pre-tax) paid over term of service. Interns are paid once a month, on the 10th of the following month.
