Outdoor Educator (Bilingual)

Part-time position. The Outdoor Environmental Educator is responsible for developing and implementing “Aventuras en el Arroyo'' with the support of the “Picnics en el Arroyo” team. “Picnic en el Arroyo'' is a program based in Austin that seeks to connect Hispanic/Latino families with nature by providing outdoor programming in Spanish. “Aventuras en el Arroyo '' will expand the program by offering two to three-hour outdoor experiences for groups of up to 25 people (4 to 6 families). Birding, hikes, nature journaling, photography, citizen science activities, and service projects at local parks, preserves, or nature centers are some examples of the type of activities we envision for “Aventuras”. A Rocha is an international community of Christians, spanning over 20 countries, working in biodiversity conservation to protect and restore vulnerable habitats, species, and communities. Our programs and conservation projects focus on applied scientific research, environmental and theological education, and environmental action. In Central Texas, we are working to facilitate access to natural spaces for minorities. “Picnics en el Arroyo” focuses on serving Hispanic/Latino families with low levels of English language acculturation. The project seeks to provide safe and free access to local watersheds and quality environmental education in Spanish for the participating families. We want to extend an invitation to join the “Picnics en el Arroyo” team and be part of the hopeful work we are doing in the Austin area to restore people and places.
