We seek an accomplished and creative individual to oversee the BS in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM) degree program, teach courses in ORTM, and provide service consistent with the educational missions of the University of Wyoming and the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The BS in ORTM emphasizes stewardship and conservation of natural resources, tourism and outdoor recreation theories and best practices, entrepreneurial and business management strategies, creating outstanding visitor experiences, and broad understanding of cultural and natural resources. The successful candidate will be familiar with the theory and practice of outdoor recreation and tourism fields and have demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month appointment.

The Haub School of Environment & Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a Lecturer (at the assistant or associate level) and Degree Coordinator in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

We seek an accomplished and creative individual to manage and oversee the ORTM degree program, teach courses in ORTM, coordinate student internships, and provide service consistent with the educational missions of the University of Wyoming and the Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The B.S. in ORTM emphasizes stewardship and conservation of natural resources, tourism and outdoor recreation theories and best practices, entrepreneurial and business management strategies, creating outstanding visitor experiences, and broad understanding of cultural and natural resources. The successful candidate will be familiar with the theory and practice of outdoor recreation and tourism fields and have demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month appointment.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

· Significant experience with the recreation and/or tourism industry at an academic and practitioner level;

· A master’s degree in a relevant field of study;

· Record of experience and training related to recreation and/or tourism curriculum and skills development;

· College-level teaching experience;

· Demonstrated communication and relationship-building skills to continue fostering relationships with Wyoming's outdoor recreation and tourism industry;

· Experience in program administration;

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

· A terminal degree in a relevant field of study;

· Commitment to addressing gaps in access and inclusion, and engaging diverse and underrepresented communities;

· Experience in a Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism related professions (COAPRT) accredited academic program;

· Demonstrated logistical coordination of an interdisciplinary educational program;

· Experience and training in environmental/natural resource challenges related to outdoor recreation and tourism;

· Experience in design and teaching of online courses;

· Experience teaching, managing, or developing applied experience courses to include student internships, capstone projects, or professional semesters;

· Understanding of environmental, natural resource, outdoor recreation and tourism issues facing the American West, nationally, and internationally;
