Camp Director

We are seeking camp directors for each of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's (NYSDEC) four summer camps. Camp directors are leaders in creating a camp environment that is safe, inclusive, and fun for campers and staff. Our summer camps combine environmental education, hunter education and outdoor recreation to create an adventurous experience. The week-long, residential programs serve campers 11-13 years old or 14-17 years old. Camps Colby and Pack Forest are located in the Adirondacks, Camp DeBruce in the Catskills and Camp Rushford in Western NY. Campers learn principles of ecology and outdoor skills including backpacking, camping and canoeing.

Camp Directors have overall on-site responsibility for instructional summer camps operated by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for children ages 11 to 17. They supervise the administration of their assigned camp's environmental education and recreation programs, insure the health, safety, and welfare of all campers, volunteers and staff, and reside at the camps.

Camp Directors are responsible for developing and supervising a comprehensive training program for staff and volunteers at their camps. They set program and work schedules, make staff assignments and review and approve the Camp Counselors' lesson plans. They evaluate staff's work performance as well as the overall effectiveness of the program. Camp Directors are also responsible for insuring the camp's compliance with health and safety guidelines as established by DEC and the Department of Health.
