Summary

Wild Rivers Conservancy of the St. Croix & Namekagon is recruiting for a seasonal Outdoor Program Support position. Working under the direction of the Community Engagement Manager, the Outdoor Program Support’s primary function is to connect people to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway through recreation, education, and stewardship programs. They will work within our public education and outreach programs and collaboratively with key partners. This position requires a motivated, responsible, and highly organized team player who can share their knowledge and passion for the natural resources that make this Riverway special. Someone who loves working with people of all ages, is able to work in all types of weather, enjoys a variety of outdoor recreation activities, is a problem solver, and quickly adapts to changing circumstances will do well in this position.

Core Functions

      Deliver Explore Wild Rivers public programs such as kayaking, fishing, hiking, and birding, among others, to program participants throughout the watershed

      Work in a team atmosphere to support and facilitate Rivers Are Alive (RAA) K-12 environmental education curriculum

      Support the delivery of special youth events, such as Wild River Journey, St. Croix Youth Summit, and RAA Teacher Workshops

      Support the development of strategic partnerships through outdoor activity engagement, in collaboration with other professionals and volunteers

      Participate in outreach opportunities, such as booths, festivals, parades and community events

      Help maintain and care for program supplies and equipment, such as kayaks, trailers, and outdoor gear

      Assist with other Conservancy activities and initiatives as needed

 

Qualifications

         Outdoor recreation experience is required; certification/education in environmental education or other environmental field is preferred

         Demonstrated ability to lead outdoor exploration experiences including canoe/kayak skills, or the willingness to learn

         Desire to lead, motivate, and manage groups of varying ages, abilities, and identities in an outdoor setting

         Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and provide excellent customer service

         Ability to work well independently, and as part of a team, be detail-oriented and organized

         Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds

         Valid state driver’s license and pass a background check

         Access to reliable transportation required

         Must be 18 years or older

 

The Wild Rivers Conservancy office is located in the picturesque river town of Osceola, Wisconsin. This position will require travel for events and activities throughout the St. Croix watershed and will require working some nights and weekends.

Compensation Information

The Outdoor Program Support is a seasonal, temporary position ranging between 20-40 hours (approximate average of 32+ hours/week) at a starting wage of $16-19 hourly. This 6-month position will begin in April and end in October. Start and end dates can be flexible within those months.
