NATURE EDUCATION COORDINATOR

We are seeking a year-round, full time Nature Education Coordinator who is creative, child  and family centered, and who shares a love of nature through cutting edge teaching models. Work directly with the Nature Education Director (NED) and Program Development Manager (PDM) to create, coordinate, implement, and oversee mission aligned programs as part of our team of educators. Development, coordination, and support in implementation of all youth programs with the Wild Bear Education Team. Support other programs as needed. The Nature Education Director(NED) is the direct supervisor and support to the Education Team.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work directly with the Nature Education Director (NED) and Program Development Manager (PDM) to create, coordinate, implement, and oversee mission aligned programs as part of our team of educators. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Development, coordination, and support in implementation of all youth programs with the Wild Bear Education Team. Support other programs as needed. The Nature Education Director(NED) is the direct supervisor and support to the Education Team.

JOB DUTIES: 

All Youth Programs:

  • Coordinate the communications, scheduling, materials and staffing needs for all youth programming.
  • Manage compliance of all State Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Lead continual coordination of Ed team in materials organization, tidiness, cleanliness, and tracking.
  • Collaborate with the team to enhance materials and monitor materials budget with NED
  • With support of PDM, initiate and review evaluations for all youth programs. Set goals with NED.
  • Support educators by implementing regular check-ins, evaluations, goal setting, and program planning.
  • Formalizing and implementing all of Wild Bear’s behavior expectations and Wild Bear program recipe in all programs.
  • Teach nature education programs when needed in all programs.

School Year Youth Programs: 

  • Work with team and partners to coordinate and support all aspects of School Year Youth Programs
  • Materials organization and planning support to staff.
  • As needed, develop themes and curriculum.
  • Support and/or run check in/out on program days.
  • Be available to support in the field when necessary. 

Summer Camp Management: 

  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the summer camp with support from NED
  • Lead summer camp registration monitoring and communicating necessary information to program participants and staff.
  • Ensure complete legal paperwork for each participant.
  • Ensure that all Wild Bear, safety, and Child Care Licensing policies are being adhered to before and during camp.
  • Work with PDM to develop and implement support systems to ensure Wild Bear’s high standard of programming.  
  • Support NED in hiring, training, and scheduling of summer camp staff
  • Support educators by implementing regular check-ins, evaluations, goal setting, and program planning.
  • Coordinate shuttling participants to/from Boulder, and to/from program sites when needed.

Outreach Programs:

  • Lead program development, outreach, coordination and implementation of Wild Bear school group (field trip and in-school) programs with support from the rest of the education team.
  • With PDM and NED, develop and formalize outreach programs, including standard program structure, supplies, evaluations, pre and post materials etc,
  • Manage/oversee program materials with support from the ed team
  • Teach Outreach Programs when needed.
  • Work with program partners to coordinate and implement collaborative programs.

Other Programs (Informal, Adult, and Family):

  • Leading and coordinating when needed.

All staff are required to assist in certain areas when needed: 

  • Support the team to keep the nature center clean and organized.
  • Marketing and community engagement as needed
  • Support the Nature Center operations by occasionally working the nature center front desk
  • Support with coordination and implementation of special events as needed.
  • Be a team player, and support each other when needed.

  • A deep love for nature with knowledge, skills, interest, and experience in natural science. 
  • Creative, earth minded, and art focus for program planning and implementation 
  • Creative problem solving and educational mindset 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and use of tools for follow up.
  • Excellent communication skills with staff and constituents 
  • Takes the ball and runs: self-motivated with excellent follow through 
  • Ability to prioritize 
  • Models excellent teaching strategies and trains staff to improve programming 
  • Seeks out training to improve and enhance applicable skills.

  • Strong presentation/experiential teaching skills 
  • Ability to lift up to 50LBs, work full days outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, as well as full days in an office setting.


POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field or qualified experience of 3 years or more
  • At least 1 year of place-based, experiential environmental education experience with various age groups 
  • Experience and/or education in curriculum development and program planning
  • Experience in supervising other staff members/volunteers 
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, etc. 
  • Ability to pass an FBI background check 
  • Clean driving record 
  • Experience driving 12-15 passenger vans preferred

Compensation Information

COMPENSATION:

$40,000 annual salary 
In person position, located in Nederland, CO 

Benefits to activate after 90 days of employment:

PTO:  accrued monthly at 80 hours/year
Personal time: 80  hours/year 
Health stipend: $150/month 
11 paid holidays per year
