The Center for Healthy Mind’s mission is to cultivate well-being and relieve suffering through a scientific understanding of the mind. CHM is a leader in conducting science - both in and out of the lab - on how to nurture emotional well-being in daily life across the lifespan.  One of its flagship programs is the Loka Initiative, an interdisciplinary education and outreach platform for faith leaders focusing on environmental and climate issues. The mission of the Loka Initiative is to support faith-led environmental and climate efforts locally and around the world by helping build capacity of faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions, and by creating new opportunities for projects, partnerships and public outreach. We are seeking an Outreach Program Coordinator to assist with public outreach, communications and partnerships, help coordinate events, and support the development of university and community relationships for the Loka Initiative.

Summary

The Loka Initiative is an education and outreach platform for faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Loka’s vision is that inner, community, and planetary resilience are interdependent; we cannot achieve any one of these goals without working on the other two. Our mission is to support faith-led environmental and climate efforts locally and around the world by helping build capacity of faith leaders and culture keepers of Indigenous traditions, and by creating new opportunities for projects, partnerships and public outreach. Currently, Loka partners closely with three communities of faith; Evangelical church pastors working on creation care and climate action, Indigenous elders and knowledge holders, including from Wisconsin Indian tribes, committed to community and ecological resilience, and Tibetan Buddhist monastics in the Himalayas working on biodiversity conservation and disaster preparedness. In the next phase of development, Loka plans to work with faith leaders in the Madison area to help develop a faith-led environmental and climate project that benefits marginalized communities.

We are seeking an Outreach Program Coordinator to assist with public outreach, communications and partnerships, help coordinate events, and support the development of university and community relationships.

Equity and inclusion are integral to achieving the vision of the Center for Healthy Minds. We seek candidates with an awareness of and commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion across all spectrums. Because inequities in our societies, including the fields of science and academia, disproportionately harm the most marginalized members of our society - especially women and Black, Indigenous, People of Color - we believe that these identities must be centered in the work of our center. Hence, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or who are members of other marginalized groups. If this role speaks to you, we encourage you to apply.
