CNC is in search of Program Coordinators with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children by providing powerful, dynamic programs. They will coordinate and lead all off-site camp activities while supporting and mentoring Counselors, Junior Counselors, and Teen Volunteers.

Summary

CNC is in search of Program Coordinators with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children by providing powerful, dynamic programs. They will coordinate and lead all off-site camp activities while supporting and mentoring Counselors, Junior Counselors, and Teen Volunteers.

Objective: To develop programming and implementation of predetermined off-site activities for campers to support and strengthen their relationships with the natural world.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise campers, ensuring their safety and well-being. Enforce all camp policies, rules, and regulations.
  2. Coordinate all off-site camp activities (paddling trips, all-day hikes, overnights, and field trips).
  3. Prepare equipment needed for off-site camp activities (vans, tents, canoes, etc.) or delegate these responsibilities to Counselors.
  4. Communicate with families regarding camper needs, safety concerns, dietary considerations, and trip highlights/experiences.
  5. Plan, prepare and shop for meals.
  6. Coordinate with the Leadership Team to provide program and planning support to Counselors and Junior Counselors including the implementation of new program ideas.
  7. Plan and implement whole camp activities including Lunch Free Play, Flagpoles, and other camp-wide activities.
  8. Support Counselors, Junior Counselors and Teen Volunteers with behavior and group management techniques to maximize camper participation in camp programs.
  9. Assist with on-site and off-site emergencies.

Leadership Team Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Leadership Team to design and facilitate mission-based, dynamic training for staff and CITs (Leadership Retreat, Training Week, Mid-Summer Training, Teen Volunteer Orientation and Training, Teen Volunteer Camp)
  2. Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop a supportive staff (observations, coordinating peer-to-peer learning experiences and fostering staff relationships)
  3. Assist with on-site and off-site emergencies
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Assistant Director
  5. Assist in the oversight of daily drop-off and pick-up of campers.
  6. Purchase camp supplies as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 by the beginning of the first camp session.
  • Proven experience in interpretation, leadership, and program development.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people of different ages and abilities
  • Lifeguard Certification (or ability to become certified)
  • Valid Chauffeur’s License (or ability to obtain once hired)
  • Physically able to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work varied hours, including some evenings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to those who have earned or are working toward a degree in outdoor recreation, biology, ecology, environmental education, or another related field
  • Knowledge of local natural resources (ecology, identification of birds, plants, etc.)
  • Experience in nature-based programs (minimum of 2 years preferred)

Schedule: Paid staff training: May 22 -June 6 and July 5-7. Camp sessions run June 7 through August 11 with no camp July 3-4.

Compensation Information

Salary & Benefits: Starting salary is $600 per week ($15/hr.) with additional stipends for overnight camps ($60/night in the field), staff uniform, CNC membership, 20% discount in Nature Center Store, 10% discount on program fees.
