The Summer Crew position runs from early June to Labor Day, pays $15/hour, and is eligible for crew housing. As a summer crew member, you would primarily help with our extended overnight summer trips. These programs are sailing and camping adventures where youth sail during the day on the boat and camp in tents at night. We run 3 and 5 day trips during a 4-6 week summer season. You would go with the ship and travel the Chesapeake while teaching and camping with youth ages 12-15.

Summary

Essential Functions: Responsibilities of the Summer Crew include, but are not limited to: 

Conduct and supervise safe and successful summer educational programs with assistance from onboard staff and other Living Classrooms employees.

Assist with all summer camp activities like cleaning, cooking, setting up tents, organizing games, and supervising free play.
 
Assist with the ship’s operations including line and sail handling, navigation and steering the ship.
 
Assist with ship’s maintenance when needed.

Become familiar with instructing groups with different needs and learning abilities.
 
Maintain, monitor, and care for education supplies to keep in good condition and supply.

Compensation Information

$15/hour, and is eligible for crew housing
