Summary
If you love growing and sharing food with your community, landscaping, being outside with a team, and working with youth, this might be the position for you. Our farm team positions aim to empower new farmers to manage the ½ acre site they will cultivate through the season. Together, the farm team is responsible for assisting the Farm Manager in crop production (seeding, transplanting, weeding), harvesting, produce sales and leading youth in the growing and selling of our food.
Key Details
- Location: East and South Vancouver secondary schools sites. Both sites are transit accessible.
- Dates: Summer Season Position, May through August, with the possibility of a later start and finish date
- Hours: Full-time. Hours fluctuate depending on seasonal demands and CSJ funding.
- Compensation: $16-$18/hour, DOE.
- Note: Details such as hours and start / end dates are dependent on Canada Summer Jobs funding and may change in response to public health directives related to Covid 19.
Qualifications
- Excitement about farming and local food systems
- Experience in gardening, farming or landscaping
- Able to carry out a variety of physical tasks that involve bending, squatting, lifting up to 50 lb, and repetitive motion
- Equipped, willing, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Adaptable and flexible
- Patience and a sense of fun
- Able to give and receive feedback
- Enjoy working independently as well as in collaboration with a team
- Must pass a criminal record check to be able to work with children and vulnerable populations
- Type 5 Driver’s License ideal; experience driving large vehicles an asset
- Must meet Canada Summer Jobs Requirements
About the Good Food Program
The Fresh Roots Good Food Farm Team cares for two ~½ acre farms on secondary school grounds in Vancouver. The farms produce annual vegetables which are sold at our markets, through a CSA, and contribute to food security programs.
