Camp counselors will lead groups of campers around the 1,440 acre Chicopee Woods. The goal is to ensure a fun and unique experience. Counselors will help campers to gain a love and respect of the world around them.
Summary
It is now more important than ever to get kids unplugged and outdoors this summer at Elachee Nature Science Center. If teaching children about nature, exploring the Chicopee Woods, getting sweaty and muddy, and acting a bit goofy sounds like your dream job, then consider joining us at Camp Elachee this upcoming summer!
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Some college experience required. Pursuing a degree in elementary education or a science-related field is preferred.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Applicants subject to a Background Check and Drug Screening.
- Prior or current experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor and/or group setting.
- Enthusiastic, creative, proactive, and able to develop and lead lessons, games and activities in a collaborative work setting.
- Exhibit some or all of the following characteristics: leadership, responsibility, patience, dependability, independence, the ability to communicate effectively, and a positive attitude.
- Physical Requirements: Candidates should be able to hike a minimum of two (2) miles per day on uneven terrain and to comfortably work outside for extended periods in the summer heat and rain.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and implement engaging activities, that also correlate with the nature-related theme, for each camp week.
- Compile supply lists and submit them, in advance, to the Camp Director.
- Submit weekly ‘lesson plans’ to the Camp Director each week for approval.
- Assist with daily set-up and clean-up tasks as assigned.
- Ensure that all campers are in their correct group while maintaining exceptional adult supervision.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of all campers and fellow staff members.
- Submit Incident Reports to the Camp Director in the appropriate time frame.
- Attend and participate in all planning and debriefing meetings.
- Be punctual, prepared, and organized.
- Maintain appropriate communication with the Camp Director, parents, and Elachee administration staff.
- Wear appropriate clothing each day - including suitable footwear, overall attire, and staff shirt (provided).
- Uphold the standards of Camp Elachee in all activities.
- Be flexible in a fast-paced, high energy, collaborative environment.
- Maintain all appropriate camp COVID procedures and protocols, such as disinfecting schedules, reporting of symptoms, social distancing and mask wearing (when applicable).
- Complete other additional duties assigned by the Camp Director.
