Summary
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for someone who is passionate about teaching people of all ages and backgrounds about birds, wildlife and wetland habitats at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center. The programs specialist would help plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate the education programs and wildlife-related recreation events held at the Center and support the EWEC team to maintain the grounds and the facilities.
As a Wildlife Recreation Programs Specialist, you will:
- Develop a wildlife-focused curriculum for site-specific conservation education and interpretative programs such as unguided and semi-guided field trips.
- Plan and conduct wildlife-related recreation clinics, seminars and wildlife-viewing events.
- Plan and conduct site-related community engagement and general wildlife learning interpretive programs.
- Assist the Center Coordinator with the cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
- Plan and conduct training for visitor services and education program volunteers.
- Assist the coordinator with volunteer management.
- Coordinate a wildlife-focused, educator training K-12 conservation education program.
- Develop partnerships with wildlife-related non-governmental organizations, conservation education groups, and professional educators.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Education, Recreation or related field preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years experience working with groups of children and/or adults preferred.
- Ability to use generally accepted interpretation techniques.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment. Must be organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to use various computer programs, including word processing, databases, and desktop publishing software; MS Office proficiency preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, volunteers, community organizations, school children, and the public.
- Ability to encourage and facilitate teamwork; ability to build strong teams among a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to stimulate an interest in nature centers and the County parks system.
- Ability to work independently on projects and programs and attain desired results.
- Demonstrates a positive, 'can-do' attitude.
- Must be able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, including multi-line telephone, facsimile (fax) machine, computer, printer, and copier.
- Must maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.
Licenses/Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
