Summary

Summer Zoo Camp Instructor, Seasonal

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is currently seeking four (4) seasonal Summer Zoo Camp Instructors for the Education Department.  This position will supervise and teach children enrolled in our Summer Zoo Camp.  Instruct camps based on the basic principles of life science, environmental science, zoology, ecology, and conservation science; will utilize biofacts and will develop hands-on activities, crafts, and games that revolve around animal themes and nature play.  In addition to leading camp activities, other responsibilities will include but are not limited to: daily camp prep and cleanup, light housekeeping, recording attendance, ZooTeen! supervision, and parent/caregiver interaction.   An outgoing, self-starting, enthusiastic, team player personality combined with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances is essential for success in this position.  

Camp Dates: June 6, 2022 – August 10, 2022 (Off July4-5)       
Schedule:  Monday- Friday 
Available Shift: A) 8:00am - 4:30pm or B) 8:30am to 5:00pm

Do you have...

  • A minimum of (2) two years of college.
  • Ability to pass a Level II background screening.  
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
  • Experienced background in biology, zoology and/or life science and previous teaching experience. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 360

Preferred

  • Experience with children in an informal learning center such as a zoo, museum, nature center, or parks department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sweep, mop, stoop, bend, kneel and lift overhead.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. without difficulty.
  • Ability to traverse zoo grounds and operate a motorized cart.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and traverse Zoo grounds on foot in possibly adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and rain.
