Visitor Services is the public interface for Earthplace with responsibility for greeting visitors and handling general inquiries including those from Preschool parents, members, community groups and volunteers. A successful candidate needs to be service oriented and capable of problem solving and answering questions in a busy and public work space. This position serves as the “face” to the Earthplace community and requires a positive and outgoing personality and a love and appreciation of nature

Summary

Organization Background:
Earthplace is a center for nature discovery and environmental learning whose purpose is to build passion and
respect for the natural world. Our programs blend science, nature conservation, and education into pathways for
experiencing and learning. For young children we use discovery and fun to build awareness and connection to the
outdoors. For school age youth we promote learning through science and understanding the role humans play in
our ecosystems. For all ages we encourage individual growth and actions that can lead to a more sustainable
community.

Responsibilities:

  • The Visitor Services desk is open during weekdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm; on Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; and Sundays 11:00-5:00 pm. The visitor service team consists of 2 staff members and are responsible for:
    • Daily opening and closing of the public lobby space, Nature Place, and the lobby Store.
    • Maintaining a safe, clean and lobby environment.
    • Handling daily general inquiries via phone, web, voice mail or mail and assist with program registrations
    • Maintain petty cash box, and process all payments to Earthplace through the front desk register
    • Program transactions, room rentals including payments, scheduling and signage
    • Responsible for overall event calendars for the Center including room usage and set-up/ breakdown details for maintenance
  • Together with the Marketing and development staff: Create program events in the calendar with schedule release dates and carefully track all donations
  • Act as official greeter and sign in for volunteers, guests and vendors
  • Maintain store and Coffee bar including: inventory, replenishment, and all sales transactions
  •  

Qualifications:

  • Four year undergraduate liberal arts degree desired
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple projects
  • Comfort and knowledge of social media and web based communication plus a working knowledge of Word and Excel
  • The ability to work independently and with diplomacy, patience and tact
