Summary
About the Position: Waste Loop is hiring a Community Compost Coordinator to connect, inspire and motivate the community in the practices of environmental sustainability through waste reduction with a focus on composting. This position plays a key role in partnering with our compost business partners to provide outreach and education/training about ways to reduce organic waste in our community. This position will work closely with our Waste Loop Education and Outreach Coordinator to facilitate community events and represent Waste Loop at local fairs and events.
Reports to: Waste Loop Executive Director (ED), Ariahna Jones
Time Commitment: 20 hrs / week
Working Conditions: Waste Loop maintains a positive work environment allowing staff to work in various locations and have flexibility in scheduling depending on workload and programming. Employees are expected to dress and act in an appropriately professional manner at all times while representing Waste Loop, use good judgment and make sound decisions in the absence of specific directions. The majority of work will occur between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday, though on occasion this position may require work outside of these times.
Rate of Pay: $25/hour
Location: Leavenworth, Washington
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Outreach to the business community with particular focus on businesses that generate organic waste.
- Customize sustainability strategic planning and consulting with businesses (including waste audits & organic waste assessment).
- Provide training and education to all compost business partners.
- Act as a resource for the community regarding composting by answering questions and providing research and information.
- Assist business partners in the set up of their kitchens to maximize waste reduction with bins, stickers, bags, signage, etc.
- Assist in sustainable business promotions for participating businesses (in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce).
- Support of the organics sales team at Winton in any education & outreach needs
- Coordination & development of community compost drop-off points & membership.
- Outreach & education to the general community about community compost drop-off points.
- Assess & organize logistics for the future collection and hauling of organic waste with business partners and community drop-off points.
- Outreach to local farms and gardeners promoting regenerative agriculture and local Winton Compost
- Represent Waste Loop in a professional manner with all stakeholders, the community and outside organizations.
In partnership with the Waste Loop Education & Outreach Coordinator:
- Facilitate community events and workshops focused on the importance of compost and local circular economies.
- Represent Waste Loop & Winton at local fairs and events through educational booths.
- Assist with the creation of educational documents related to the compost process.
Desired Qualifications:
- Good physical health and ability to work outside in variable conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Friendly and enjoys engaging with the public
- Ability to lift 40lbs
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
- Relevant experience in environmental sustainability and/or composting
- Detail-oriented with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
