The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is seeking a Biking Instructor/Educator to work at various Minneapolis Parks this summer.

Summary

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is seeking a Biking Instructor/Educator to work at various Minneapolis Parks this summer.

The Biking Instructor/Educator will:

  • Provide biking instruction to children, teens, families, and adults*
  • Lead Bike to Nature programs on Minneapolis bike trails **Note: Programs will be designed to follow MDH safety guidelines during the pandemic, which may include limited group size, masks, physical distancing, staying outside, or other measures as conditions change
  • Ensure safety of participants while traversing side streets and public trails
  • Inventory and evaluate all equipment condition
  • Drive a truck with enclosed trailer,unload, load and secure bikes and other equipment
  • Complete administrative tasks necessary to document and evaluate all biking programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Work season and hours:

Early-Junethrough September 10, 2022; mostly Tuesday through Saturday; hours include afternoonsand evenings up to 40 hours a week. The exact weekly schedule will vary depending on park and group schedules.

Compensation:$22.00 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement.

This position is eligible for sick and safe leave in accordance with the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. This position is not eligible for other benefits.Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in bikinginstruction and leading biking programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with children and diverse populations
  • Strong organizational, communication, and public speaking skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, positive attitude, good sense of humor
  • Must be a self-starter withthe ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
  • Must be able to consistently arrive to programs prepared and on-time
  • Must be able to lift30 lbs., hike uneven terrain, and teach effectively in all weather conditions
  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Valid driver’s license; a clean driving record
  • Trailer towing experienceDesired but not required:
  • Working knowledge of Minneapolis bike trail system
  • Certification in bike safety and instruction such as League Cycling Instructor Certified or equivalent
  • Academic training in Environmental Education, Ecology, Natural History, or Teaching
  • Experience working in environmentaleducationprogram and curriculum development
  • Ability to communicate fluently in a second language,Spanish, Hmong, or Somali preferred.
